Passivation of Stainless Steels
Passivation of stainless steels is a process that provides the removal of free iron from the surface of the stainless steel component. The free iron particles present after machining operations will provide corrosion sites on the components and could cause accelerated failure (corrosion) of the product. The passivation process eliminates the free iron particles thus leaving a clean and passive stainless steel surface.
